Abstract

914,651. Dispensing liquids. HENDERSON, W. D. July 14, 1959 [April 28, 1958], No. 13453/58. Classes 106 (5). and 116 [Also in Group XIX] In a self-service petrol station, a quantity and price indicator at the petrol pump is connected to a second indicator at a remote point and means are provided at the remote point for setting the indicators to zero. In Fig. 2, a number of self-service petrol pumps 6 is supervised by an operator at a remote control station 2 having a control desk 23 provided with indicators 24 associated with corresponding indicators at the pumps. Lifting of a pump nozzle 37 off its stand causes actuation of a servomotor 52, Fig. 5, which moves lever 50 to switch on the supply pump, lever 50 simultaneously rotating anti-clockwise a shaft 70, Figs. 8 and 10, associated with the indicator 100 on the pump so that pawl 75 on a plate 77 engages notch 78 in cam 72. When the nozzle is replaced on completion of delivery, the lever 50 and shaft 70 are returned and plate 77 is thereby rotated to look the computer wheels 60, a second pawl 82 engaging a notch 83 on plate 73 to prevent operation of the pump until resetting has been completed. The indicator 24 on the operator's desk is actuated by an electrical indexing device from the pump indicator. After receiving payment through a pneumatic tube system 10, 11, the operator resets his indicator 24 by means of knob 26 and depression of a second re-setting button 30 operates a solenoid 93, Fig. 5, to rotate shaft 84 to trip pawl 75, whereby the locking disc 77 is returned by a spring 79 to zeroize the pump indicator and the pawl 82 frees the disc 73 to permit the pump to be operated when the nozzle is next lifted from its bracket. An electrical circuit, Fig. 14 (not shown), for operation of the operator's indicator 24 from the pump indicator includes means preventing operation of the re-setting solenoid 93 until dispensing is completed. A lubricating oil dispensing device 180, Fig. 15, at each petrol pump comprises a spring-loaded piston which is forced upwards by the oil supplied under pressure through pipe 14 containing a valve 185 the opening of which is controlled remotely by the operator. To pull the cylinder the operator presses button 192 which operates solenoid 190 to open valve 185. When the cylinder 180 is full the piston operates main switch 186 to break the circuit of solenoid 190 and close valve 185. The measured quantity of oil is forced through pipe 16 to a dispensing nozzle by the spring 183 when the valve in the nozzle is opened.
