Abstract

908,977. Dispensing liquids. TOKHEIM INTERNATIONAL A.G. Sept. 7, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30849/60. Class 116. [Also in Group XIX] Liquid-dispensing apparatus comprises a control mechanism for ensuring that the registers are zeroized before dispensing can commence and that the apparatus is rendered incapable of dispensing before the nozzle can be returned to its support. The pump nozzle (not shown) is normally mounted on a support 33 and when it is desired to dispense liquid, the nozzle is removed and a handle 37 is moved from the full line position to the dotted position shown, thus preventing the nozzle being replaced. In a dispensing operation, the nozzle is removed from the support 33 and the handle 37 is rotated manually counter-clockwise (Fig. 2) to drive via gearing (not shown) a shaft 39 clockwise (Fig. 5), to rotate clockwise a cam 109 through 10¢ degrees as permitted by a lostmotion connection 111, 113. After this rotation, the cam 109 has moved a lever 115 sufficiently to trip a dog 74, thereby releasing a resetting disc 67 for rotation clockwise under the action of a spring 71, thereby driving via a pawl-and-ratchet 69, 63 shafts 57 which rotate to cause the register wheels 27, 31 to be zeroized. The disc 67 rotates until a stop 95 thereon contacts a pin 91 on a pawl 85, a cam 93 on the disc 67 moving the pawl 85 to release a control element 77 rotatable on shaft 39 for clockwise rotation by a spring (not shown) until stopped by contact between a stop 107 on the element 77 and a roller 97 on the disc 67, the element 77 moving the cam 109 via the connection 111, 113, thereby rotating the shaft 39 through a further 90¢ degrees. During this rotation, a cam (not shown) on the shaft 39 is effective to declutch the register wheels 27, 31 from the resetting gear train and to clutch them to the outputs from the meter and the variator of the apparatus (neither is shown). After 85 degrees of rotation from the initial position, a further cam (not shown) is effective to close a switch to switch on the pump motor. When liquid delivery has been completed, the operator returns the handle 37 manually to its initial position. The dog 74 is re-engaged so that the shaft 39, control element 77 and resetting disc 67 are rotated counterclockwise (Fig. 5) together. The motor switch is opened only after an interlock tooth 79 has been engaged by the pawl 85 so that the motor cannot be restarted until the initial position has been obtained. Later, in the return movement, the register wheels are reclutched to the resetting gear train and de-clutched from the meter and variator outputs. When the initial position is reached, an interlock tooth 83 is engaged by the pawl 85 and the pawl 69 is lifted from the ratchet 63 by a cam 68 to the disc 67. Modifications.-As applied to dispensing apparatus in which a single storage tank supplies a plurality of remote dispensers, each dispenser is controlled by a valve (see Group XIX) adapted to be opened only after the associated register has been zeroized and the associated nozzle valve opened. In another modification the spring drive from the control element 77 is absent, the required rotation being obtained by manual movement of the handle 37. Specification 776,014 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 836,107.
