Class 116 A petrol dispenser is provided with a single hand lever 175 which when moved anticlockwise first allows the quantity and computed price registers 5, 7 to be reset by gearing 15, 17, 19 and a spring 73 and then closes the pump motor switch 6 (Fig. 6). The lever is then moved by a spring in the return direction far enough to obstruct the nozzle support 173. Further manual return movement of the lever opens the motor switch, conditions the resetting mechanism for a subsequent resetting operation and clears the nozzle support 173 to receive the nozzle. The lever 175 rotates a plate 195 connected through arcuate slots 199, 201 and links 203, 205 with levers 183, 105, and a spring-loaded pawl 209 which is pivoted on the plate resists relative movement between the end of link 205 and slot 201. Initial movement of the plate rotates lever 178 only and this movement is transmitted through shaft 181 and hub 105 to move a pawl 103 (Fig. 2) clockwise so tripping a pawl 59 and allowing spring 73 to reset the registers. Further rotation of the lever 175 overcomes pawl 209 and rotates the plate to take up the lost motion in slot 199 whereafter lever 183 is moved clockwise causing projection 185 to depress plunger 187 of switch 6 and simultaneously, through shaft 179, hub 33 (Fig. 2) ratchet disc 31 and shaft 23, clutches the registers to the meter (not shown), and declutches them from the reset mechanism. When the lever 175 is released by the operator it is returned by a spring to an intermediate position in which it obstructs the nozzle support 173 and during this movement lever 183 is partly returned by spring 188 to a position in which pawl 59 is engaged by a tooth 41 on wheel 31. Switch 6 meanwhile remains closed. At the conclusion of the dispensing operation the lever 175 is returned to its original position so further rotating lever 183 which causes hub 33 to rotate and cock spring 73, switch 6 to open, and the nozzle support 173 to be cleared.
