Abstract
848,106. Tubular heat exchangers. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd., and GREY, N. W. Sept. 24, 1958 [June 27, 1957], No. 20334/57. Class 64(3) Heat exchanging fluid is caused to flow through a casing 1 and over a plurality of parallel tubes 2a therein a helical path without necessitating the use of vanes, deflectors or baffles, the fluid entering the casing at one end thereof through a tangential inlet 6a the longitudinal axis of which is inclined to the plane of a transverse section of the casing, and being discharged from the other end of the casing through a tangential outlet 6b. The outlet 6b may be directed to receive liquid with minimum change in the direction of liquid flow. In the form shown the tubes extend between tube plates 3 which are interconnected by a tie member 4 extending along the fluid-free central zone of the casing 1. A liquid or a gas may flow through the tubes.
