Abstract
In a process of bonding aluminium sheets on plates to lead the aluminium surface to be bonded is first plated with a nickel coating, preferably a coating of 8-12% phosphorus and 92-88% nickel by immersion in a hot solution of sodium hypophosphite and a buffered solution of nickel chloride, followed by a coating of a tin-lead alloy, preferably a 59% Sn/41% Pb eutectic alloy by hot dipping and finally hot pressing the tinned aluminium and lead sheets together at 400 DEG F. The lead is preferably tinned with the eutectic alloy by hand wiping using an oxyhydrogen torch and may be reheated to 400 DEG F. prior to the bonding operation. The bonded product is cooled by water sprays while still under pressure. U.S.A. Specifications 2,658,839, 2,658,841, 2,658,842, 2,694,017, 2,694,019, 2,717,218, 2,762,723 and 2,766,138 are referred to.
