Abstract

Nitrogenous fibres such as wool, silk, nylon and poly-acrylonitrile fibres are coloured by applying a hot, aqueous bath containing 2-12% by weight of the fibres of sulphuric or hydrochloric acid and 0,5-8% by weight of the fibres of an aminonaphthol mono- or di-sulphonic acid or a naphthylamine mono-, di- or tri-sulphonic acid, and then applying a cold aqueous bath containing 0,5%-3% by weight of the fibres of sodium nitrite. Modified permanent colours are obtained by subsequent treatment in a bath containing a coloured inorganic salt, e.g., copper, nickel or cobalt sulphate or chloride, or potassium bichromate, together with ammonia or sulphuric or hydrochloric acid. Numerous examples describe the colouration of wool and nylon fibres.
