Abstract
Mordant dyes, dyeing with; regenerated celluloses, dyeing.-Natural or regenerated cellulose fibres, alone or in admixture with other fibres, are dyed in a single bath by the metachrome process after pre-treatment with a substance having a cation capable of reducing surface tension and having affinity for cellulose fibres. Suitable pre-treatment substances are, for example, (a) reaction products (quaternary salts) of a trialkyl or other tertiary amine with a di-(chloracetyl) derivative of benzidine or of 4 : 41-diaminodiphenylurea and the corresponding quaternary bases, (b) reaction products of a chlorhydrin of a polyglycerol with stearyldimethylamine, (c) reaction products of dicyandiamide with a base containing a chain of at least 10 carbon atoms, e.g. oleylamine and dodecylamine and derivatives of guanidine and guanylurea containing such a chain. In examples: (1) a mixed fabric of wool and copper artificial silk is treated for 1-2 hours with a cold solution of the quaternary salt obtainable by reacting the chlorhydrin of a polyglycerol containing about 7 mols. of glycerol with octadecyldimethylamine and, after squeezing and rinsing, is dyed a uniform shade on both fibres by treatment for 1 1/2 hours in a boiling bath containing Metachrome bordeaux B, sodium chromate and ammonium sulphate; (2) a mixed fabric of wool and viscose artificial silk is treated for 1 1/2 hours with a cold solution of oleylbiguanide and, after squeezing and rinsing, is dyed a uniform shade on both fibres by treatment for 1 1/2 hours in a boiling bath containing Metachrome brown B, sodium chromate and ammonium sulphate. Specification 436,592 is referred to. Oleylbiguanide is obtained by fusing oleylamine hydrochloride with dicyandiamide at about 150 DEG C.
