Abstract
a :b -Bis-(21-fluoro-91-anthronylidene-101) -ethane is made by heating glyoxal sulphate with 2-fluoranthrone-(9); the latter is obtained by ring-closing 41-fluorodiphenylmethane-2-carboxylic acid which is made by reducing 41-fluoro-2-benzoyl-benzoic acid with zinc dust and ammonia and caustic soda in the presence of copper sulphate.ALSO:The invention comprises 2 : 21-difluoracedianthrone, which may be made by treating bis-(21-fluoro-91-anthronylidene-101)-ethane or -ethylene with an agent capable of bringing about ring-closure. The dyestuff dyes and prints fibres of natural or regenerated cellulose in redbrown tints and may be used as a pigment.
