Abstract

845,080. Injection moulding apparatus MADSEN, E. F. Feb. 20, 1959, No. 5929/59 Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII] Internally threaded articles, e.g. screw caps, are injection moulded on a rotatable core 78 having a screw threaded end 80, the core 78 extending through a mould plate 36 which remains in engagement with the article while the core is being unscrewed from the article. In the example the mould comprises two parts 10, 12, the part 10 containing nine cavities 18. Material is injected through passages 20, 22. After injection, the part 12 is moved away from the part 10 and then the cores 78 are rotated through gearing 92, 93 by a shaft 94. Rotation of the moulded caps is prevented by ribs 112, Fig. 3, on the mould plate 36 which is urged away from the other plates 32, 34 of the mould part 12 by springs 42. As the shaft 94 rotates, it disengages a threaded extension 104 from the sprue in passage 20, and the sprues in passage 22 are pushed outwardly by rods 130 and severed from the moulded caps at narrowed parts 26 of the injection passages. The rods 130 are actuated by springs 132 or by compressed air. Compressed air supplied through a nozzle 128, channels 126, 120 and grooves 122, 124 assists in removing the moulded caps from the cores 78.
