Abstract

927,800. Injection moulding machines. TURNER MACHINERY Ltd. June 27, 1961 [July 14, 1960], No. 24578/60. Class 87(2). An injection moulding machine comprises a mould assembly and injection means adapted to co-operate with a sprue carrier having at least two sprue channel sets in such a way that whilst one set is in use in the injection process the other is automatically cleared of sprue, the sprue channel sets being changed over for subsequent injections. After a moulding cycle and starting with the mould sections apart, oil under pressure is applied a cylinder (not shown) causing rotation of a circular male mould carrier 10 through 90 degrees, so carrying off the articles 60 moulded in the preceding injection cycle and installing clean male mould cores for the next injection cycle. At the same time oil is applied to another cylinder (not shown) causing rotation of a circular sprue plate 41 through 180 degrees, carrying the sprue loaded channel set to a lower position and installing the cleared channel set in the injection zone 29, 50. The mould sections are then closed axially by a toggle mechanism so that the male mould cores enter the female mould cavities 37, which then move against springs (not shown) to press against an auxiliary headstock 22. This in turn is moved against springs (not shown) to press against a headstock plate 3. The latter movement automatically brings about the ejection of the sprue 58 from the bottom channel set by means of pins 56. The injection is performed by a nozzle 29 and the mould is again opened by the toggle mechanism and springs. In a modification, Figs. 7 to 11 (not shown), a horizontally reciprocating sprue removal system is used in place of the circular one described above, but both may be used in conjunction with two injection nozzles, e.g. for materials of different colours.
