Class 20(4) A suspension system for a ceiling comprises runners 16 each having a lower flange 20 for the support of a panel 9 and an upper flange 19 spaced from the flange 20, and hangers 22 each having an upper flange 25 arranged to rest on the flange 19 of one of the runners and a lower flange 23 for the support of a panel, the flange 23 of the hangers extending in the opposite direction to the flanges 20 of the runners. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, channel headers' 13 are suspended by wires 14 in spaced, parallel relation and channelshaped runners 16 are clamped to the headers by U-shaped wire clips 15 having acutely-bent prolongations 17 adapted to grip the generally V-shaped steps 18 of the flanges 19 of the runners; the flanges 20 of the runners fit in one of the grooves 10 formed in opposite edges of acoustical panels or tiles 9, and the other groove receives the flange 23 of a hanger. Downwardly dished portions 26 are provided in the flanges 23 so that the latter fit firmly within the grooves 10, and the webs 24 of the hangers have dimples 27 to aid correct spacing of the webs 21, 24 of the hangers and runners. In modifications, (a) the flanges 119, Fig. 5, of the runners 16a slope downwardly and the hangers 22a have V-shaped lower flanges 123 and downwardly sloping upper flanges 125 complementary to the flanges 119, and (b) hangers 222, Fig. 8, are disposed lengthwise of the panels 9a and have flanges 225 seating on the flanges 19 of the runners and upstanding, outwardly ribbed, reinforcing flanges 250, Fig. 9, to form a line sealing contact between adjacent hangers.
