[Also in Group XIV] A reciprocating vegetationcutter comprises three flat, superimposed toothed blades 11, 12, 16, the intermediate blade 16 being reciprocated between the outer blades, which are identical. The upper and lower blades are bolted one on each side of a plate 14, the forward edge of which acts as a guide for the reciprocating blade 16. A stud 18, secured to the blade 16, extends through a slot 17 in the upper blade 11 and is engaged by a cam (not shown) to drive the blade, Engagement between the stud 18 and slot 17 is sufficient, with short blades, to maintain the reciprocating blade in contact with its guide 14, but, with longer blades fixed studs extend between the upper and lower fixed blades, through longitudinal slots in the reciprocating blade 16.
