In a mower of the type having a reciprocating knife bar co-operating with a fixed finger plate, the knife bar comprises a series of blades 1 riveted to a supporting bar. Each blade is formed on its upper side with grinding surfaces 2 along each cutting edge, and on its lower side is either milled or broached with notches 3 extending perpendicularly to the cutting edge. Further, the notches are bevelled off in such a manner as to break the cutting edge into a series of such edges extending stepwise.
