In a reaping machine, wherein the moving knife reciprocates within slots 3 in fingers 1 on a finger-bar (not shown), the slots extend to within half an inch of the extreme tips 4 of the fingers, to obviate choking of the fingers by moss and short growth. The upper parts of the fingers, above the blades, have V-shaped cut-away portions 5 directed towards the tips.
