Abstract

<PICT:0841630/III/1> In an electrostatic spraying process, the liquid to be sprayed is delivered to an extended spraying surface having a plurality of holes through it for passage of the liquid and maintained with a potential difference in relation to the article such that a liquid jet having a base diameter substantially equal to the spacing between the holes is formed at each hole. The spraying surface may be spherical or cylindrical. As shown, a spherical atomiser head 1 having perforations 22 is fed with paint and solvent from pressurised containers 15, 16 through tubes 4, 5 and is maintained at a high potential with respect to the earthed workpiece 18 to be sprayed. Sufficient pressure only to produce drops on the surface of the head is used, the atomisation being brought about by the electrostatic field. Specification 605,338 is referred to.
