In an impeller for a centrifugal compressor or blower having radial blades, inside walls and outside walls forming a flow path between each pair of adjacent radial blades, the flow path in the meridian plane of the blades has a curvature in which the slope at any point along the flow path coincides with the slope of the resultant of the centrifugal forces at the point due to the rotation of the impeller and the curvature of the path in the meridian plane. This ensures a uniform distribution of velocity throughout the flow path and prevents separation of the fluid from the inside and outside walls.
