Abstract

840,335. Elastic fluid turbines. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. April 8, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 12186/57. Class 110 (3). The fluid inlet pipe 5 of an elastic fluid turbine having a double casing is sealed to the outer casing 1 by a flexible diaphragm 6 or bellows and the valve 10 or valves controlling the input of fluid to the turbine are located in the space between the casings and are controlled by a single spindle 7 piercing the outer casing and sealed thereto by a gland 8. The valve 10 controls an ahead nozzle group 3 and an astern nozzle group 4. In a modification two or more ahead nozzle groups and an astern group are each controlled by a separate valve, all the valves being controlled by the spindle 7.
