Abstract
837,892. Screwing-up and unscrewing screws &c. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. July 25, 1956 [July 25, 1955], No. 21466/55. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] An impact-wrench or screwdriver comprises a part 10 connected to a wrench-socket or a screwdriver-bit 2, and a part 13 having appreciable inertia and connected through a lostmotion coupling 20a, 20b, 19b, 19c to the part 10, which it drives when the lost-motion is taken up. The device, operated by turning the arms 13 by hand, may be suspended from a jib by a chain carrying a hook engaged in an eye 12c rotatably mounted on a shank of the adaptor 10. One or more anvil elements 19b, 19c beneath a shoulder 12b on the shank 12 are attached to the adaptor 10 by welding, and are struck by the hammer elements 20a, 20b on the part 13, which is located on the shank by a collar 14. The force of impact may be varied by adjusting weights 15 along the arms. For use in a horizontal plane, the eye 12c may be replaced by a concave plate, as in a breast-drill, mounted on a ball-bearing on the end of the shank.
