Abstract

837,170. Storing liquefied gases. ANTARGAZ SOC. ANON. DE DISTRIBUTION DE GAZ LIQUIDES DE PETROLE. Nov. 14, 1958 [Nov. 25, 1957], No. 36778/58. Class 8(2). A detachable filling device for a liquefied gas e.g., butane container 2, Fig. 1, having secured thereto the body 1 of a gas discharge valve 10 displaceable by conventional means not shown from its seat 12 and surrounded by a liquid clack valve 4 normally held by a spring 5 against a seat 3 and having bayonet slots 4d at its upper end comprises a cam actuated hollow piston 23, Fig. 3, having a liquid inlet nipple 39 leading to an orifice 23b, Fig. 5, radial ports 23a and to a chamber bounded by a liquid clack valve 20 secured round the piston 23 by a spring 21 and bounded by the clack valve casing 16, 22 ; the piston 23 having secured internally thereof a tube 27 including an end piece 28 having a pin 34 which when in engagement with the slots 4d and the piston 23 and hence the valve 20 is lifted by cams 25 serves to open valve 4 and unseat gas valve 10 thereby allowing liquid to enter the container 2 and vapour to pass therefrom up the tube 27 through an orifice 56 to a relief valve chamber 40 and and thence through a valve controlled orifice 54 to atmosphere. The valve 52 controlling venting orifice 54 is actuated by a forked lever 49 pivoted at 50 and connected to a rod 44 of a diaphragm 41 biassed by a spring 48 to the valveopening position. A member 45 carried by the rod 44 of the diaphragm 41 is engaged by a pawl 60 carried at the free end 59 of the cam actuating lever 58 and on the filling level of the container being reached liquid passing up tube 27 and through orifice 56 is vapourized resulting in the diaphragm 41 being lifted, the pawl 60 being released and the lever 58 being returned to the horizontal position and the valves 4, 20 being closed. On disconnecting the filling unit the gas valve 10 becomes seated by virtue of the spring 11 and internal gas pressure.
