Abstract
837,097. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., C. A. Aug. 16, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 25313/55. Class 35. In a machine with longitudinally extending ducts in the rotor end windings, fluid being fed to and discharged from the ducts by radial passages, the outlet points are further from the rotor axis than the inlets and the construction is such that the ducts have equal resistance to fluid flow. In Fig. 2, the end windings have ducts 3 extending axially thereof and into the end portions of the slot conductors whence fluid which has entered the end windings by radial passages 14 passes to the air gap by radial passages 15 in the conductors and outlets 16. The slot portions may have spaced apertures to provide radial ducts conveying fluid from sub-slots 6 to the air gap, or axial ducts 3 may extend along the slot portions and be fed by radial inlets from sub-slots 6 near the passages 15. The stacks of end windings are preferably spaced apart to allow fluid to flow circumferentially over their exteriors.
