Abstract
724,506. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 31, 1953 [Aug. 30, 1952], No. 24046/53. Class 35. Slot conductors have metallic sheaths bonded to the insulation and corrugated metallic sheeting bonded to the sheaths on each side of the winding to provide ventilating passages between the sheaths and the slot walls. Near the ends of the rotor the corrugations permit only axial flow and at the centre the corrugations 53 are vertical and permit hydrogen sucked in at the " air " gap to flow inwards to shut off parts of axial ducts 21 in the bottoms of the conductor slots, and return radially through corrugations and holes in the slot wedges to the " air " gap. In intermediate (axially) portions of the rotor, gas flows axially through corrugations until reaching cut-away portions 31, 32 which enable it to flow towards the " air " gap either obliquely or radially.
