Abstract
836,358. Injection-moulding machines. PROJECTILE & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 21, 1957 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 5350/56. Class 87(2). A heating chamber for an injection-moulding machine is provided with a spreader having external longitudinal flutes so arranged that the plastic material passes over the hghest portion of the flutes to flow into outlet passages between the flutes. A heating chamber 11 with inlet port 14 and plunger 13 has bolted to one end by bolts 16 a spreader 17 having a discharge nozzle 20 and four inclined holes 34 for electrical heating elements (not shown). The free end of the spreader is located within the chamber by four bosses 22 which contact the inner walls of the chamber and conduct its heat to that end of the spreader. Between each boss 22 are two inclined flutes 24, 25 and between each pair of flutes 24, 24 is one flute 26 which is led by passages 27 to an outlet chamber 28 in communication with the nozzle 20. The surface of the spreader, between the flutes 24, 25 and the flutes 26 has circumferential grooves 33. In operation, material from the inlet port 14 is forced by the plunger 13 along the flutes 24, 25 where it spills over, through the space between the spreader and chamber and through the grooves 33 into the flutes 26 and from thence through the passages 27 to the nozzle 20.
