Abstract

922,080. Drying-apparatus. VALMET OY. Feb. 4, 1961, No. 4293/61. Class 34 (1). Drying-apparatus wherein a gaseous drying medium is discharged through nozzles and heating elements are arranged so that heat is transferred by conduction to walls at the entry portions of the nozzles and the gaseous drying medium is partly heated by contact with the walls, each of the nozzles having a narrow elongated discharge slot with substantially parallel side walls of such width in the direction of flow of the gaseous medium that the medium is further heated by contact with the side walls and friction in passing through the slots, in which the medium has its highest velocity of flow. Apparatus for drying material 2 comprises a pressure chamber 1 from which a gaseous drying medium is discharged through nozzles, each having an entry portion 4 and a narrow elongated discharge slot 6 with substantially parallel side walls. The medium is partly heated by contact with walls 3 of the entry portions 4, which walls are heated by conduction from steam or water-heated pipes 5, and partly by contact with the side walls of the slots 6 and friction, which side walls receive some heat by contact with the walls 3. In the construction shown, the pipes 5 constitute the side walls of the slot, and in modifications the pipes 5 may be secured either to the upper or lower surfaces of parts of the bottom of the pressure chamber between the nozzles, and in another modification the pipes are secured to the side walls of the slots 6.
