835,535. Casting composite articles; making heat-exchangers. NILSSON, E. R. Oct. 16, 1958 [Oct. 16, 1957], No. 33032/58. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Ribbed pipes for heat-exchangers are made by casting wrought-iron around a steel tube core which is filled with a heat-resistant material, such as moulding-sand. The pipes 7 have longitudinal ribs 9, and end flanges 11 mounted at each end of the pipes have corresponding grooves and projections 13, 12 for keying with adjacent flanges. Bends 14 are welded to the ends of adjacent pipes, and the assembly is arranged in bolted frame members 15, 19. The insert may be sand-blasted or scratched and is supported during casting by chaplets intermediate its ends.
