Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the differences in the rates of thermal expansion coefficients occuring in the temperature differences in the thickness direction of the staves by dividing the stave body to two or more pieces, spacing the respective divided portions and connecting the respective divided portions by the cooling pipes burined in the stave body. CONSTITUTION:A stave body 1 is bisected in the vertical direction and the respective divided portions 1a, 1b are spaced to above and below. These are mutually coupled and integrated by the cooling pipes buried in the stave body 1. The cooling pipes 2 are maintained in the state non-welded to the stave body 1 and the respective portions 1a, 1b are restrained of relative displacement with respect to the cooling pipes by the bent ends 2a of the cooling pipes 2. In this way, the stave is fixed by passing the bent ends 2a into the openings 3a provided to a sheet iron shell 3 and airtightly welding these ends 2a to the sheet iron shell 3 by way of flat type fixing plates 4. According to this method, the excessive stress action upon the sheet iron shell occuring in the thermal expansion of the stave body is prevented and the durability of the stave and sheet iron sheel is enhanced.
