Abstract

906,367. Non-conducting coverings for heat. DONALD, P. G., and ASSOCIATED BUILDERS MERCHANTS Ltd. Dec. 4, 1958 [Sept. 5, 1957], No. 28027/57. Class 64 (2). Shape-retaining insulating sections 1-5, 9, 10 moulded (see Group V) from cellular polystyrene are secured around a hot water cylinder 15. There are four quartercylinder sections 1-4, each with a concave edge 31 to receive the rounded edge of an adjacent section and each with four protrusions 21 for resting on the cylinder surface and the sections are held in place by encircling bands 36 of adhesive tape. The top is closed by two half-discs 9, 10 notched before use, like the side sections 1- 4, to accommodate a pipe. The thick annular section 5 may be stuck to the convex bottom of the cylinder and is protected by a fibreboard collar 16 which supports the cylinder. The Provisional Specification describes also two modifications, a jacket formed with two half-cylindrical side sections and two end sections shaped like the bottom section 5 and another jacket consisting of but two boat-shaped sections. The sections of these respective jackets are secured together with adhesive and the two sections of the latter, like the side section of the former, have the pipe-accommodating notches formed during moulding and the protrusions on the inner surface may be elongated.
