835,147. Making transformer cores. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 27, 1958 [June 25, 1957], No. 20030/57. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXXV] In making a magnetic inductor core whose outer member 10 is of spirally wound strip material and whose inner member 11, carrying windings 14, is made of straight laminations, magnetic or non- magnetic wedges 15 are driven between the members to deform member 10 and thereby reduce the air gaps 12, 13 at the butt joints. Alternatively, outer member 10 may be first given the shape shown in Fig. 2, member 11 being inserted while the outer member is temporarily compressed to elongate it. In other embodiments the inner member is bent from a strip of magnetic material into a zig-zag shape (Fig. 4, not shown), or formed of strips curved along their length (Fig. 5, not shown), both elongating under compression. Combinations of the methods may be used.
