Abstract

834,716. Permanent-way braking apparatus. DEMAG A.G. Sept. 13, 1957 [Oct. 27, 1956], No. 28976/57. Class 103 (1). Control mechanism for a conveyer truck brake operated by compressed air comprises a contact operated by a truck entering a brake to supply compressed air to one side of a brake cylinder via a delaying device to release the brake, which was closed, after the truck has been braked, and an exit contact operated by the truck leaving the brake to supply compressed air to the other side of the brake cylinder to close the brake. A truck 6 operates a valve 3, 4 through a contact 5 to connect a main pressure pipe 1 with pipe 9 to supply compressed air via pipe 13, two-way switch 14, pipe 15, delay device 17 to a brake cylinder 16 to move the brake beams 18 to their release position, the delay device 17 delaying the brake release until after the truck 6 has been braked; the compressed air is also supplied to a valve 10, 11 to move it to the position shown in Fig. 1 to raise contact 12. After release of the truck from the brake it depresses contact 12 to operate valve 10, 11 to supply compressed air from pipe 1 to brake cylinder 16 via pipes 22, 21, switch 14 and pipe 20 to reclose the brake, air being supplied to valve 3, 4 to move lever 5 to its raised position. When the contact 5 or 12 is raised the pipe 9 or 20 is exhausted via chamber 8 or 23 in valve 3 or 10 respectively. The brake operation may be manually controlled by passing compressed air through a pipe 29 to move piston 27 and linkage 26 to reverse valve 14, Fig. 3 (not shown), to connect the brake cylinder 16 to pipe 22 via pipes 15 and 21 to release the brake when a congestion of trucks causes one to be held on the contact 12 so preventing the release of the truck in the brakes.
