833,934. Moulding soles on footwear. BAUDOU, A. J. G. Dec. 17, 1957 [Dec. 22, 1956], No. 39250/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VII] The shaping of the front part of the ramp, the joining of the base of the upper to the sole, the injection or compression moulding of the sole, and the vulcanisation (when the sole is of rubber or a rubber/plastics mixture) or gelling (when dealing with plastics only) are effected in a single mould, the shaping operation being performed on a mould core while the other steps are simultaneously effected immediately afterwards in the same mould and on the same core. As shown in Fig. 6, the edge portion 8 of the ramp 7 of the upper 6 mounted on the last 1 is held in a recess in the front shell 2 of the mould by a yoke 10 provided with points or spurs 11. The ramp is then shaped by moving the last 1 in the direction of arrow f. After the side shells of the mould are closed about the last 1, the projecting base portion of the upper is bent down, either prior to or during moulding, inwardly or outwardly. In the constructional modification shown in Fig. 16, the side shells 3a, 4a each have a recess 16 adapted to receive a complementary shell 16a attached to the last 1.
