Abstract

811,654. Moulding footwear. SUPERGA S.p.A. May 29, 1956 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 16602/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VII] A method of making rubber bottomed shoes comprises placing rubber into a mould cavity. defined by two longitudinally divided frame members 19, 20, in a recessed seating 25, the inner face of each member having a projecting bead 26 and being adapted to confine at 12, 28 the side edges and at least a portion of the lower face of the sole, heating the mould and simultaneously pressing onto the mould a lasted upper unit so that the upper bears on the projecting beads 26 and seals the cavity against the escape of rubber. The base of the mould is patterned as at 14, 18 and the upper unit comprises an upper 2, lining 3 and insulating layer 8 mounted on a last 16. The method eliminates " flash " marks along the edges of the sole. When it is desired to eliminate flash on the base of the sole the cavity may first be loaded with a sheet of pre-vulcanised rubber. The sole may have a centre portion, formed by the mould base 14, of a different colour or density to that of the remainder of the sole. The frame members 19, 20 may be extended, as shown by the dotted lines, to encompass the lower face of the sole. To obtain a flat faced sole the portions 14, 18, 28 may be flush.
