Abstract

872,540. Moulding soles. ODERMATT, A. Nov. 1, 1957, No. 34237/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VII] A method of moulding rubber inserts 3 into a leather sole 1 which has holes 2 opening into recesses 5 on the tread face comprises placing the sole 1 into a mould, having cavities defined by upstanding walls which engage the recesses 5, filling the holes and cavities with unvulcanised rubber and then vulcanising by heat. The dimensions of the cavities and walls are such that the head of the insert 3 is larger than the hole 2 but smaller than the recess 5. In view 'if the heat applied the leather sole is preferably of chrome sole leather, vegetable chrome tanned leather or chamois leather. A layer 6 of rubber may be formed on the inner surface of the sole and the holes may be of circular, oval or rectangular cross-section.
