Abstract

840,029. Moulding rubber soles to footwear. OFFICINE MECCANICHE ANTONIO NOVA. Dec. 5, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1958], No. 39293/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VII] The side mould members 3, 4 are provided with stepped recesses 12, Fig. 2, which, together with the plates 13, 14, form grooves for receiving strips 18 of the same material as the shoe upper. These strips 18, which later form the welt of the shoe, are of width such that the strip edge engages during moulding the lower portion of the upper side wall 20. The plates 13, 14 are formed with tapered ends which extend beyond the walls 11 of the mould members 3, 4 and press against the margin of the shoe upper 20 in order to seal the mould on the last side. If desired, the welt strips 18 may be of a length exceeding half the overall welt length, their ends being bevelled whereby the junctures of each strip with the other at the toe and heel portions of the finished shoe are inclined to the longitudinal middle plane of the shoe. Upon removing the mould from the shoe, the welt portion extending beyond the side walls of the sole is trimmed.
