Abstract

548,315. Moulding shoe soles. FISCH, A. April 15, 1941, No. 4929. Convention date, April 15, 1940. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] Arch supports in the form of transverse ribs extending from the shank of the sole are made by forming a sheet of uncured rubber or other mouldable material with ribs and grooves and then cutting out a sole or shank. The ribs may be higher at the inside of the shank than at the outside, so that an orthopedic support is provided in which the inside of the foot arch is raised. As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, uncured rubber is formed by a plain roller 8 and grooved roller 9 into ribs which appear on the cut-out sole as arch supports 4, 5, 6, Fig. 1, the grooves 9‹ being so formed that the ribs have sloping portions 11, 12 which meet at peaks 12c. On the ribs are impressed V letters 17, 18, Fig. 7 (Fig. 7 shows a modified design) which indicate the centre of each sole. On the rolled sheet, Fig. 7, is then placed a sole pattern 19 having a slot 20 which extends forward from the base of the heel, the base line of the heel coinciding with the outer side of the groove 16. As shown, the cut marking the inside of each shank is made through the peaks 12c. During rolling a thickened portion may be applied at 23 to support the metatarsal arch. Specification 426,601, [Group VII], is referred to.
