Abstract

1471816 Injection moulding two layer shoe soles ANTONIO NOVA Srl 20 Oct 1975 [21 Oct 1974] 42960/75 Heading B5A Shoes, the soles of which have two layers comprising plastics of different properties and/or colours are made by first injection moulding the lower layer of the sole with upstanding studs extending from the upper surface thereof and then injection moulding the upper layer of the sole between the lower layer and the ramp in the mould shown in the Figures. In the first stage, Fig. 4, auxiliary mould element 7 is placed in the mould cavity formed by jaws 2 and base 3; a protrusion 13 on the lower surface blocks injection passage 10, and there are blind holes 15 (and 12, Fig. 3, not shown), in the lower surface of the element. Protrusions 14 are provided to produce lightening cavities in the heel. Plastics material is then injected through passage 8 to form a lower layer having studs on the upper surface corresponding to the blind holes 15 (and 12) and a hole therethrough corresponding the protrusion 13. The element 7 is then removed, and is replaced by last 5 bearing ramp 6, Fig. 8, a member 16 (e.g. of cardboard) being placed so as to prevent entry of plastics into the cavities in the heel. Plastics material of different properties and/or colour to that constituting the lower layer is then injected via injection passage 10 and the hole 13a through the lower layer to form the upper layer. The upstanding studs on the lower layer serve to improve bonding between the two layers.
