Abstract
1435837 Boots, &c DESMA - WERKE GmbH 16 Aug 1973 [23 Aug 1972] 38810/73 Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] The invention relates to a method of making multi-layer soles from material of low viscocity comprising the steps of injection moulding an outer sole layer 13 and then injecting an inner sole layer 12 so as to become connected with the outer layer, the inner layer 12 also becoming connected to a shoe upper 10 either by being moulded integrally with the upper or by being moulded onto a lasted upper. According to the invention, during injection of the outer sole layer 13 the mould comprises a removable counter plunger 18 (Fig. 1) instead of the last 15 (Fig. 3). The material for the outer layer may be injected into an enlarged mould cavity 23 and is then compressed against the counter plunger by raising a bottom plunger 17. After the outer layer material has partly set this process is repeated for the inner sole layer, using the last 15 in place of the plunger 18. In order to ensure that the outer sole layer is held on the bottom plunger when the counter plunger is removed, the bottom plunger may be provided at several points with depressions (29) Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) into which the injected material is forced. In Figs. 7 to 9 (not shown) the upper is moulded as well as the inner sole layer by raising the bottom plunger (17a). In Fig. 10 (not shown) two lasts (35, 36) and a counter plunger (37) are mounted on a head (34) which is rotatable about an oblique axis. In Fig. 11 the bottom plunger 17b is fixed and the counter plunger 18b is provided with an extension 38 fitting into a recess 21b which is used to form an extended welt part (14b) on the inner sole layer (12b) Fig. 12 (not shown). The inlet passages 22b and 24b for the moulding material may be shut off by an element 40. For Figures see next column
