[Also in Group XXXV] An engine-driven alternator 14 is compound excited from a battery 23 and rectifiers 20, 22, 24 fed by a control unit 18 (see Group XXXV), so as to provide a supply whose voltage rises steadily with frequency for feeding high-slip squirrel-cage motors A, B, e.g. in hoisting or earth-moving equipment. The system may be braked by means of resistors 28.
