Abstract

832,520. Current and voltage measurement. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. July 25, 1957 [July 26, 1956], No. 23148/56. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXV] Apparatus for measuring the current in and the voltage of a conductor 4 comprises a current transformer having a toroidal winding 2 wound on a magnetic core 1, a sheet metal toroid 3 acting as an electrostatic screen, the current in the winding 2 representing that to be measured, the voltage to be measured being represented by that in a conductor ring 5 which is secured to the toroid 3 and insulated therefrom by a member 6. The current is read on an oscilloscope 8 connected to winding 2 by a concentric cable 7 and the voltage on oscilloscope 10, the capacitance between 4 and 5 forming one element of a capacitive potential divider and the capacitance 21 and the stray capacitances forming the other element, a concentric cable 9 connecting the oscilloscope 10. In Fig. 3 the screen is partly comprised by annular former 11, the conductor ring 5 being located in a groove 12 and supported by insulating spacers 13.
