Abstract
730,302. Electric tests. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1953 [Sept. 10, 1952], No. 22758/52. Class 37. Apparatus for testing non- ferrous metallic tubes for flaws comprises two similar coils, located side-by-side, surrounding an iron core, the tube being placed between the coils and the core, and the impedances of the coils being compared in an A.C. bridge circuit. As shown (Fig. 1) the coils 6, 7 are wound on an insulating former 4, the core 1 comprising iron wires in a non-conducting tubular sheath 2, and the magnetic circuit includes radially slotted, magnetic washers 8 and magnetic, longitudinally slotted shielding ring 11. Initial bridge balance is obtained by a magnetic sleeve 15 slidable over the two windings 6, 7, and a potentiometer R3 (Fig. 2) in the bridge circuit.
