Abstract

606,551. Time-delay transmission lines. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. June 6,1946, No. 17253. Convention date, June 18, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] A time-delay transmission line comprises an elongated conductive member and a winding consisting of a first portion insulated from, but electrically coupled along a major portion of its length to the conductive member and a second portion overlapping at least a part of the first portion and connected in series relation thereto. The effect of the second winding is to compensate partially for the distortion produced in the first winding due to its inductance. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1a, a conducting core structure 20 of the kind described in Specification 606,549 is provided with a number of first winding portions of five turns each, on which are wound second portions of four turns in series therewith. The units 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 are then connected in cascade. With lines designed to produce long time delays the coils may be wound in three layers diminishing in turns in succession. The. core 20 may be replaced by a coil with terminals thus converting the structure from the three terminal type shown to four terminals. In an application to a cable the coils may be wound on an insulating core made of polystyrene and the elongated conductive member is provided by a flexible metal sheath surrounding the coils.
