Abstract
747,637. Transformers and inductors. PYE, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Aug. 20, 1953), No. 22992/53. Class 38 (2). [Also in. Group XXXVI] A coil assembly comprises a metal core 8 surrounded by an insulating former 6, at least one coil winding 5 mounted on and in intimate contact with the former, and an earthed metallic conducting member 7 in intimate contact with the former and arranged to shield the coil from the core. A coil used for generating a very high voltage from high-frequency oscillations may comprise a winding 10 on an insulating former 11 (Fig. 4a) and enclosed in a layer 12 of insulation. The core 13 extends thrqugh the bore of the former 11 and around the outer surface of the coil. A metallic shield 14 is embedded in the insulation 12, in intimate contact therewith, and is of sufficient area to shield the coil from the core. A shield may also be embedded in the former 11. Both the shield and the core are earthed.
