Abstract
831,311. Fuel injection engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A. G. June 11, 1956 [June 10, 1955; July 7, 1955], No. 17930/56. Class 7(3) Fuel is spread as a thin film 6, 7 on the wall of a combustion chamber and removed therefrom as vapour by air rotating in the combustion chamber, the mixture being ignited by an ignition means such as a spark plug or hot spot. The fuel may be sprayed as a single jet or, as shown, as two jets 4, 5, and the fuel vaporized from the films is swept by the rotating air towards a spark plug or hot spot 10. In addition to the ignition means 10, an area 11 or 12 of the combustion chamber wall may be provided with a catalytic substance such as sodium, platinum sponge or carbon black to increase the readiness of the fuel to ignite. The piston is provided with cooling recesses 6 into which a coolant is injected.
