Abstract
Additional fluid, eg atmospheric or pressurised air, fuel or air-fuel mixture, is admitted to the combustion chamber via a valve-controlled inlet associated with an ignition promoting device ie spark plug 26, injection nozzle 68 or heater plug 78. Fluid may be supplied via a unit from duct 63 through an annular flutter valve 41 into chamber 44 below spark plug electrode 47, grooves in the base of housing 43 preventing the valve from sticking open. <IMAGE>
