680,718. Generating combustion products under pressure. DE HAVILLAND ENGINE CO. Ltd., HALFORD, F. B., CLEAVER, A. J., and DOVE, E. B. July 14, 1950 [July 14, 1949], No. 18569/49. Class 51 (i) [Also in Group XXVI] A combustion chamber 10 for a rocket (see Group XXVI), has an annular pre-combustion chamber 13 lying in a plane transverse to its longitudinal axis and both combustion chambers are encased in a common cooling jacket 15. In the modification shown the forward end of the combustion chamber 10 has threaded sockets 44 to receive fuel injectors and is closed by a plug 40 having cooling passages 41 therein. The pre-combustion chamber is in two parts welded together in the plane 43 whilst the chamber 10 is welded in the plane 46 to a jet nozzle. Ignition in the precombustion chamber 13 may be effected by hypergols or by a spark plug if a non-hypergol is used therein.
