Abstract

1,018,714. Combustion chambers. ROVER CO. Ltd. June 9, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 24527/63. Heading F1B. An auxiliary passage 16 into a precombustion chamber directs air transversely to the main part 20 of the fuel jet. The passsage 16 is formed by cutting away part of the outer surface of a cylindrical hot plug, the upper end of the passage being connected to the interior of the plug through ports or notches 18. A minor portion 21 of fuel may be injected upstream of the ports 18 and projections 19 may be provided in the wall of the recess as in Specification 901,981. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the upper part of the combustion chamber is formed of a sheet metal shell 23 and the hot plug 6 is surrounded by a thermally insulated cylinder 25 welded to the ports 6<SP>1</SP>, 23. A heater plug 26 assists starting.
