Abstract

1536049 IC engine combustion chambers NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 26 July 1976 [24 July 1975] 31029/76 Heading F1B An I.C. engine comprises a cylindrical or spherical auxiliary combustion chamber 14 which communicates with a main combustion chamber 8 via a passage 24 located so that during the induction stroke a portion of the charge entering the combustion space via intake duct 20 is diverted into auxiliary chamber 14 by the head of the intake valve 16, a wall 20 common to chamber 14 and intake duct 10 and projecting into the latter permitting transfer of heat to the incoming charge. A sparkplug 22 in chamber 14 effects ignition which spreads via passage 24 to main chamber 8. The charge in the main chamber may instead be ignited by a spark-plug therein or in a second auxiliary chamber.
