Abstract

831,300. Cleaning beets &c. SILVER ENGINEERING WORKS Inc. July 23, 1957 [July 23, 1956], No. 23237/57. Class 117 Beets &c. from a hopper are freed of clods by a horizontal screen surface A of spaced and staggered rotated wheels with kickers 11, Figs. 2 and 9, to propel them forward to an inclined screen of rotated rollers 20 with intermediate rotated squirrel cage rollers 21. The rollers 20 have spiral ribs or scrolls 39 to feed the beets from ends to middle, and vice versa with opposite scrolls. The cleaned beets pass down a hopper H to a feed away conveyer C. Fig. 6 shows the action of the rollers on a beet 50 and Fig. 7 shows a clod being broken up. U.S.A. Specification 2,670,846 is referred to.
