667,754. Sink-and-float separator. SIMONCARVES, Ltd. April 27, 1950, No. 10378/50. Class 82(ii) A sink-and-float coal washing plant comprises an open type wheel, the dirt wheel, for the removal of sinks with its axis at right angles to the axis of a second open type wheel, the coal wheel, for the removal of floats, the sinks falling from the coal wheel into the dirt wheel. As shown, dirty coal is fed from a star wheel b into pockets formed by centrally hinged and spring urged flights d, and side plates c of an open type coal wheel a, and a back plate i and then fed into a bath of separating medium. The floats are removed by the wheel a at v and the sinks fall into a trough t where they are removed by the lower run of the open type dirt wheel k having its axis at right angles to that of the coal wheel. The coal wheel is supported by rollers e and driven by a spur wheel f engaging pins on the outer periphery of the side plates c; the dirt wheel is supported on roller m driven by a spur wheel n engaging pins on the inner periphery of the side plates r. The flights l of the dirt wheel may have extensions l<1> on their edges to make a close joint with the sides of the trough.
