Abstract
476,793. Cooking doughnuts &c. BERGNER, J. C. Aug. 3, 1937, No. 21413. [Class 28 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In apparatus for cooking doughnuts and the like, the articles being conveyed in succession, whilst floating on the cooking - liquid, are turned by means which allow the articles, whilst being turned, to remain sustained in the liquid by their own buoyancy. As shown, the cooking-bath is annular and the articles are propelled therethrough by vanes 19b carried on an annular rim 19a attached to a disc 80 on a shaft 81. The articles are formed and dropped into the liquid by a former 18, inverted at the position B, and removed from the liquid at C. The turner comprises a pair of fingers 10 arranged parallel to a shaft 11 on which they are mounted and at equa radial distances from the centre thereof. The space between the fingers is sufficient to permit the passage of the vanes 19b when the fingers are in the inclined position from which the turning movement of 180‹ begins. The turner is driven through gearing from a shaft r driven intermittently from a motor through mutilated gearing. The vanes 19b, also, are driven intermittently. Instead of fingers 10, the plate construction 10a shown in Fig. III may be used. The path of the articles through the cooking-bath may be defined between a fixed wall and an endless belt, the horizontal vanes 19b being carried bv the endless belt. Successive inversions of the articles may be effected in opposite directions. The articles may be conveyed by the flow of the cooking-liquid or by air-jets.
