868,296. Screw elevators. ZAVODY VITEZNEHO UNORA NARODNI PODNIK. June 17, 1959, No. 20713/59. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for the continuous counterflow diffusion or extraction of cossettes &c. in a tower-type container in which the material is fed upwards against a descending current of the extracting liquid by a screw conveyer, the conveying surface 4 of the screw 3 is inclined downwards from the hollow shaft 2 of the conveyer to its periphery and has secured to it a surface 5 of similar shape but of reversed inclination. The peripheries of the surfaces are fitted with a helicoidal tape 6. Cossettes are fed into the shaft 2 through a shoot 9 and are conveyed downwards by a screw conveyer 10 of similar shape to the conveyer 4, 5. The cossettes are discharged from the shaft 2 through a curved shoot 12 on to the surface 4 of the screw 3. The lower end of this screw is fitted with a scraper 14 which removes cossette particles from the sieve 15 and feeds them into the main body. At the top of the tower the cossettes slide along the surface 4 of the screw into a shoot 20.
