Abstract

830,855. Work-holders. INTERNATIONAL GLASS CORPORATION. Jan. 23, 1958 [Sept. 30, 1957], No. 2290/58. Class 83 (3). In a clamp for holding together overlapped plates 32, 33, Fig. 1, a tubular body 10, having capped sleeves 14, 20 secured thereto, slidably supports a holder 12 carrying a pair of needles 22. The needles together form a ball-shaped end 26 and a headed end, consisting of a conical portion 38 and a cylindrical portion 40. Each needle has a shank portion 34, set back to allow contact of the ends only and to provide clearance for a spreader bar 24, having a T-shaped head 28 held between the sleeve 20 and a washer 30 abutting the body 10. A head 46, Fig. 3, of the holder, is upset about the needle heads so as to become integrally connected thereto, and the holder is mounted in the body 10 and held therein by the sleeve 14. A screwed extension 12, of the holder passes through the sleeve 14 and receives a wing nut 16, to impart axial movement to the holder. In use, the ball end 26 of the needles is passed through holes in the plates 32, 33 and the nut 16 is rotated to move the needles along the spreader bar so that the ball end is forced apart and a shoulder 36, Fig. 5, thereon abuts the plate 32. Further rotation of nut 16 clamps the plates 32, 33 together.
